Blessing Okagbare and Super Eagles goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama were two
of several sportsmen and women that were decorated at the third edition of
Nigerian Sports Awards held recently at the Muson Centre Onikan Lagos.
One of the highlights of the award ceremony which attracted Sports people
from the length and breadth of Nigeria and corporate individuals was the
meeting between Modupe Oshikoya, who won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games
in 1974 and Ese Brume, 16, who earned hers this year at ----, with 40 years of
history between their feats.
Household names in sports such as Fabio
Olanipekun, Chuka Momoh, Aisha Falode, Mitchel Obi, Mumini Alao, Chioma Ajunwa,
Modupe Oshikoya, G.O.B. Olowu and many others added beauty and history to the
event.
Enyeama was named as Footballer of the Year and the Sportsman of the
year, while Okagbare carted home the Track and Field star of the year and
Sportswoman of the year.
Young Super Falcons star, Asisat Oshoala won the Footballer of the Year
award in the women category, while her Falconets team mate, Courtney Dike
bagged the Discovery of the Year award, their Coach, Peter Dedevbo emerged
Coach of the Year.
Other winners include; School Sports Awards: St. Barnabas Primary School,
Ilorin, Ball Sports Personality of the Year: Aruna Quadri, Combats Sports:
Odunayo Adekuroye, Boxerof the Year: Efe Ajagba, Weightlifter: Maryam Usman, Special
Sports Person: Loveline Obiji, Team of the year: Falconets,Journalist of the year
(print): Tana Aiyeina (punch), Radio Journalist of the Year: Godwin Enaghena
(Top Radio). Lagos State governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola was named as the
Sports Governor of the Year.
