JAMB tertiary institutions football tourney begins August 20th

The maiden edition of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) sponsored soccer competition among all the tertiary institutions in the country has been scheduled to hold in two centers in Ilorin between August 20th and 27th.

At the joint meeting of the Main Organising Committee (MOC), the Joint Steering Committee for Tertiary Institutions Sports and other stakeholders yesterday at the Conference Room of the Kwara State Sports Council, the draws for the competition was also conducted.

The 16 schools were drawn into four groups of four teams each. In Group A are: University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin and Kaduna Polytechnic.

Group B has Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, Delta State University, Abraka, 4th NICEGA qualifier and College of Education, Oro. Federal Polytechnic, Offa leads three others in Group C, who include Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu, College of Education, Minna and University of Ilorin, the host of the competition. In the last group, Group D are Umar Ali Shinkafi Polytechnic, Sokoto, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi and Kwara State University (KWASU).

The Chairman of the MOC, Pharmacist Kale Ayo, who is also the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development in the state commended JAMB for the opportunity, adding that the development is part of the youth and sports development initiative of the state government, which encourages public private partnership.

He said that everything has been put in place to ensure hitch-free competition.
