Akwa Utd to end season in top four

As the 2016/2017 NPFL season comes to an end this weekend, Akwa United FC of Uyo will look to end what has been a rewarding season for them among the best four teams in the league.

4th placed Akwa United will trade tackles with 5th placed Kano Pillars on Saturday 8th September at four O'clock in the afternoon at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo in their last match of the season.

The Promise Keepers are unbeaten at home this season and will be full of confidence of recording their first home and away win against Kano Pillars whom they beat in Kano in the first stanza of the league.

Christian Pyagbara's goal made the difference in the first leg in Kano and a win in Uyo for Coach Abdu Maikaba's team will see them end the season either in third or fourth position depending on what will be the outcome of the match between Enyimba and Katsina United in Calabar.

With 57 points from 37 matches scoring 42 goals, Akwa United have already set a new club record for the highest number of points and goals in a league season.

The Promise Keepers will be inspired by their Aiteo Cup success against Yobe Desert Stars in midweek to go for all three points when the face Kano Pillars- a team that was knocked out of the same competition by Yobe Desert Stars in the Round of 64.

Coach Maikaba will miss the services of Benin Republic International Counou Paterne who is on national duties with his country and striker Gabriel Okechukwu due to suspension. But he will have a strong squad to pick from for the crucial game as all the players were in great shape during the last training session ahead of the game.

Pillars will come to Uyo with revenge in mind, but they will have to be at their very best against a free scoring Akwa United side that is an unstoppable force at the Nest of Champions.

Victory for the 2015 Federation Cup Champions will be their 17th win in 38 matches with 9 draws and 12 defeats.

Football fans in the state are encouraged to turned up and support the team to victory on Saturday as the team hopes to end the season on a bright note.
