Nigeria’s fastest rising newspaper, New Telegraph, has concluded arrangement to recognise a few Nigerians and private investors that have been outstanding in their chosen fields and contributed to the country’s development over a period of time.

The awardees, whose selection came through painstaking and meticulous processes by the board and management of the publication, have been acknowledged as pillars responsible for the political and economic sustenance of the country in 2017.

In arriving at the final selection of the 19 personalities and four corporate institutions, the board and management of the newspaper had the tough task of filtering through a large list of equally formidable individuals and organisations that are, by no means, outstanding in their own rights.

Among those to be recognised at the event coming up on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at The Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, are the Speaker, House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara (Leadership in Public Service Award), and some governors including Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike (Man of The Year); Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tmbuwal (Governor of The Year); Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje (Outstanding Governor in Health and Education), and Ibrahim Dakwambo of Gombe State (Outstanding Governor in Infrastructural Development).

The list also includes former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar (Political Icon of The Year); business mogul and President, Dangote Group, Malam Aliko Dangote (Businessman of The Year); Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Kennedy Uzoka (Bank CEO of The Year), and Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission (NDCC), Mr. Nsima Ekere (Corporate Leadership Award). Others are television top personality and Chairman, Channels Television, John Momoh (Media Icon of The Year, Broadcast); Chief Executive Officer, Media Trust Limited, Kabiru Yusuf (Media Icon of The Year, Print); President, Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinick (Sports Administrator of The Year); NFF Executive member, Ahmed Fresh (Grassroots Football Development), and Registrar, Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede (Public Servant of The Year). Also to be recognised are sports and showbiz personalities including actress, script writer, director and producer, Sola Sobowale (Best Actor of The Year, Female); Richard Mofe Damijo (Best Actor of The Year); Tekno (Artiste of the Year); table tennis star, Aruna Quadri (Sportsman of The Year), and a female freestyle wrestler, Odunayo Adekuoroye (Sportswoman of The Year). At the corporate level, four companies are also to be recognised for their outstanding contributions to the country’s development in the face of daunting economic challenges. The firms include Zenith Bank Plc. (Bank of The Year), Access Bank Plc.

(Most Innovative Bank of The Year), Aiteo (Company of The Year), and Remita (Product of The Year). According to the Managing Director/Editor-in- Chief of New Telegraph, Mrs. Funke Egbemode, the award is part of the newspaper’s recognition of excellence and drive by personalities and institutions in making Nigeria stand out globally.

“As the watchdog of the society, we believe the media should go beyond beaming searchlight on only the ills in the society. We also owe it as a duty to recognise individuals and institutions that have not just weathered the storm and succeeded where others failed, but also made visible contributions to the development of the country. “This is exactly what we are doing as a newspaper organisation.” she noted.
