BEREAVED ELDER BROTHER RECIEVES THREAT CALLS

BEREAVED ELDER BROTHER RECIEVES THREAT CALLS
BY ESTHER EGBE
After the brutal killing of the Lagos base business man, Mr. Niyi Ehindero, his corpse was kept under the police custody for twenty days, before releasing it to his family for burial. The deceased was allegedly shot by a Soldier attached to operation MESA Unit at Bada Street in Mushin area of Lagos, after the burial the elder brother,Mr Germany Ehindero told our reporter that he has been receiving threat calls and SMS from different people to drop the case of the deceased,Niyi Ehindero.
He also revealed that the effort of the family members to get the deceased corpse for proper burial at first was very challenging. It was alleged that the IPO at the IP Alakare station purposely frustrated the case by delaying it. effort, which when they got to the state security they query the police man that was on duty, event the OS at State CID police side, they were mad at him, that what happened to Niyi can happen to anyone They told the Police Officer that as a Calabar man that lived in Lagos. He should remember that some of his family will be back at home someday.
Germany told National daily that his brother was only six years in marriage. According to our research, it was reported that late Niyi is related to the former inspector of police please, I would not want to discuss that Niyi’s.
The also said that it is still shocking thing and sad for the family because they are in deep pain over the death of our brother son, husband and the way he was killed and how the army are handling the case is very painful. Finally, the army has been able to identify the killer, second Lt Matthew that was attached to OP MESA from Lagos Government Security Funds from Alausa; they are under Lagos State Security funds.
What we the family of Niyi is saying is that the killer should be brought to book, what we have been hearing from different sources is that the Army are trying to hide the killer that is what I think, because they keep telling us they are doing investigation for so long , but we have not receive any condoles visit from them. None of them has done anything they only wrote to the lawyer and which is uncalled for.
The army should not take it as if it is just a thing that the army does not have respect for the constitution. The definition of army is a security of the Nation to protect citizen, but not to kill the innocent citizen. I see no reason why an army cannot apologize regarding to the death of my brother, they only thing they are saying is that they are investigating the matter. They don’t know he still have an aged grandmother and what has happened to him can happen to anyone, what if that happened to them, how they are going to feel. Even the mother has not recover from the shock, she is still hospitalized.
Any time, they see the publication about them on the newspaper, they start moving around to block the paper from publicizing which is improper, if they did not do anything wrong press will not carry it. When the incidence happens, the army was inviting witness to come to barracks to testify against the victim.
All we are saying is, let them release the killer and let him be prosecuted by the police that is all we want. Please don’t take picture of me, because of security reason and also the ways the army are handling the cases, its’ shocking to the whole family and the ways they have been going around. Am not suppose to talk to you, there are spoke men for the family but as time goes on, you will see them.
The lawyer handling Niyi’s matter said the family should relax for the army to fetch out the killer and see how far they can go regarding their investigating that a little time should be given to them which is what they are waiting for and I have been receiving threat calls from people that if i does not forget the case, they will come after me. Many threat calls.
Germany advice pressman not to visit the soldier office, if they want anything let them write official letter to the media house. According to a report, it was realized that the soldier who shot Niyi was on drugs of cause I have got friends and mates in the Military, they have not been involved in such an act of killing for pleasure during operation. when former Lagos State Governor Maruwa, when he was the Governor of Lagos State I have got friends that work as monitoring officers for operation and they work diligently, devotionally, wholeheartedly, they have been taking responsibility of Lagos State security they have done it over three/four years. There was never anything of such report with them. Some of them are senior officer now, but to me the guy took an advantage that way I see it, was uncalled for somebody should just waste my brother’s life in a very short time like that.
A petition has been written through our lawyer they have not done anything. For the police at the State CID level they have done do well at least I can comment them that they have done well. The police have been doing investigation and they were against what the former Corporal Edet. The police officer in charge of the case, what he has done, by foresting the effort in which they almost wanted to detain him at State CID, so he had to be invited in respect of delaying the Corpse for twenty days. They even told us they will call his DPO to come and write in respect to that too. That why I said the State CID for now with the ways they have gone with this, I can comment they have done well.
According to residents, it was gathered that after the incident the army and police who work around there surveying the place, the resident were just looking at them while one young man said how can you kill someone and feel no regret, that is not fair, then this young man was taken away for two hours, he came back unhurt
The young man became quite when he came back. According to Niyi’s brother, the witness said the Soldier is using toning cream. On that Thursday 5th of January 2012, over hundred people are in the State Police Station at Alakare residents of the neighborhood they witness what happened. Many of them run inside their house, because there was a burial ceremony that day in that area.
Germany said Niyi and his friend went to that area to collect money they owed his friend that also owed him, the idea was if this friend collect the money, he will pay him. Niyi’s brother told National Daily that when his brother was shot, the friend said he saw it through the window .that was what Niyi friend is told him. The friend said he left Niyi inside the car to go see his friend that was owing him so he could pay Niyi, only for him to hear a gun shot, then he run into the house and look through the window only to discovered that his friend was shot by the soldier, Standing beside the said he never had any argue mention with them.
The first thing the Soldier asked Niyi was where is the gun, he reply was I don’t have gun, then the next thing, he said was that do you know I can shot you now, he then shot him, he search the car and did not see any gun, he went to the house when Niyi’s friend wanted to go to check if he could see the friend, but there was nobody there, then the soldier went to another house and said that a man has been shot death there without knowing that a lot of people has seen him under pretence .when he shot Niyi, if you people don’t take time, other people will be shot too like him. The friend said when he shot Niyi, he shouted, scream aloud and waited beside the car in his pool of blood for some minute before he gave up, he would save Niyi from dying but because the Soldier threat to kill anyone who come close Niyi would have been saved because there was a close by hospital around the area. The people could not help Niyi, because of fear of the soldier .after shooting him he was standing beside his car to watch him die in cold blood. It is a kind of wicked killing, Matthew said anybody that wants to die let him come out the person will die like the way he die, if you see where it happened you will see that he bleed to death.

BY ESTHER  EGBE
THE National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Lagos Division has recently directed Master Stroke Packages Limited that are into specialized print production/carton packaging service in Nigeria to pay one of its former worker, Mr.Seyi M.Suilman the Sum N25 million.

The claimant has been unlawfully dismissed for gross misconduct, is not entitled to his January 2011 salary, or any other entitlement.Mr.Seyi is not entitled to damages for breach of contract and living wages. But the Judge said the claimant’s case is frivolous and misconceived, it is hereby dismissed in its entirety costs of N25,000,00 is awarded in favour of the defendant to be paid by the claimant.
The Assistant Manager Admin/Protocol of Mr.Seyi said he was employed by Master Stroke Packages Limited by a letter dated the 8th January 2005 on an annual emolument of N360, 000.00(three hundred and sixty thousand naira) which was increased to N1, 440,000(One million four hundred and forty thousand naira) effective 1st April 2010.He pleaded that his employment is governed by his letter of employment and the defendant’s staff handbook.

He pleaded that the Master Stroke Packages Limited should produce all the receipts for shipments he tenders from the airport so that a proper and clear analysis will be reached as he is innocent of the allegations and the receipts would bear him out but the defendant failed to produce them.
Mr. Seyi said that the MD set up a panel comprising only of the defendant‘s management staff without an external body despite him asking that the defendant should include an independent body to go through the transaction for the period in question. He implored the Boss should invite the Police but it refused to ,instead he issued him a letter of summary dismissal to him dated 31st January 2011 which was borne out of lack of fair hearing by the panel constituted by the defendant’s management.
At the time when Mr Seyi was dismissed he was already the Assistant Manager Admin/Protocol of the company and the MD has refuse to pay his salary and allowances amounting to N120, 000, 00(One Hundred and Twenty Thousand Naira) for the month of January 2011 even though he worked up to the 31st day of January 2011.The claimant did not lead evidence but relied on the document he front loaded in support in support of his claims.
The defendant’s case on the pleadings is that it engaged the services of the claimant by a letter dated 8th January 2005 as an Administrative officer and that he was an Assistant Manager responsible for handling deliveries/forwarding of cartons of recharges cards and orders to trade partners in different parts of the country at the time he was dismissed.
However, the defendant stated that the claimant’s resumption of duty as an Assistant Manager, he forwarded a list to the defendant representing freight costs for delivery of orders to different destinations within Nigeria.
The defendant pleaded that the claimant was subsequently given access to funds for which he made regular withdrawals and provided invoices for money spent on a two week basis. it pleaded that for the period under investigation, the total sum of N18,000,000,00(Eighteen Million Naira)was disbursed for the purpose of deliveries from 1st June 2010 to 30th December 2010.
The Executive Director also said that he discovered that the Mr Seyi invoice that he had been making substantial withdrawals of cash in range of about NN1.200,000,00(One Million, Two Hundred Thousand Naira )for two weeks and asked the claimant to submit a report clarifying the cash withdrawals. And also said that the Protocol Officer was given a fair hearing and panel set up was fairly constituted with him, that he was given an opportunity to defend himself which he failed to do.
He said Seyi is guilty of gross misconduct, it terminated his employment in accordance with the company staff handwork by a letter dated 31st January 2011 and the management wrote to him to express its concern with your ability to refund the sum of N5.6 million and as at today 2011, but he never responded to the concern of Management on his ability to refund the said sum, but the presiding Judge has ordered that the defendant should pay N25 million to the claimant.
