Simidele Adeagbo: My journey has been amazing

Nigeria’s Simidele Adeagbo has promised to give her all for the country as the main race of the women skeletoin event begins today National Daily learnt.

The 36-year-old finished in bottom-place during the Women Official Training Heat 1 to 6 but the times she produced in all the runs showed that she has made huge progress in the sport. A sport she took up just four months ago. The sliding sport sees her lying face down in a sled as she races down a frozen track at about 80mph National Daily gathered.

She might be the least experienced competitor in today’s race but Adeagbo, in this interview with AIPS, is more appreciative of how amazing her journey has been.

The main event for Women’s Skeleton at PyeongChang 2018 will last for two days – Friday and Saturday – and there are four Heats. The competitor with the quickest combined time after the four runs wins gold.

Today’s event starts at 8:20pm in South Korea which is 12:20pm in Nigeria.

Meanwhile the President of the Nigerian Olympic Committee, Habu Gumel told AIPS in an interview conducted at the IOC hotel in PyeongChang that a medal is not priority for Team Nigeria at the 2018 Winter Olympics as "participation is key".

Gumel, who has been an IOC member since 2009 explained what being at the Winter Olympics means for Nigeria.

Medal or not, it is the hope of Nigeria's trailblazing Winter Olympics contingent that what they have started does not come to an abrupt end after PyeongChang 2018 and Gumel has assured it will not.

Nigeria’s famous bobsled trio; Seun Adigun, Ngozi Onwumere and Akuoma Omeoga will be in action from Saturday to Wednesday National Daily gathered.

Just as it is in skeleton, they will feature in the Women Official Training Heat 1-6 before the main race of four heats.
