Bassey Reads Riot Act to Players, Officials of Akwa Utd .....Make Uyo a Fortress

The Chairman of Akwa United FC Elder Paul Bassey has tasked players and officials of the club to get back to winning ways as soon as possible in a bid to finishing strong in the league this season.

Elder Bassey gave the charge while addressing players and officials of the club after Saturday morning's training at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

The club Boss who is also the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Sports expressed disappointment over the team's recent poor results which has seen them picked just four points from a possible twelve in their last four matches and slipped from 6th position to 12th on the NPFL table.

Elder Bassey called on the players and officials of the team not to drop any more points at home but to make their home ground a fortress.

"I am not comfortable with our position on the table, we have all what it takes to move up there and mount a serious challenge for the title".

" We have dropped six points at home and managed to pick just two points away and that is not good enough. You have to stand up, prove your worth and approach every game with a winning mentality".

"Our winnings, both at home or away from home must be consistent and we have to consolidate on our home form to be able to move up the table".

The club boss reassured the team of government readiness to supporting it to succeed in the league.

" The government is very much interested in the progress of this club and such gestures could only be reciprocated by winning matches and qualifying for  continental football next season".

Akwa United who have won five and drawn three of their last eight home matches will on Sunday April 2nd engage Shooting Stars Sport club 3SC of Ibadan in one of the matchday 17 fixtures of the Nigeria Professional Football League NPFL at the Godswill Akpabio international Stadium at 4pm.
