The New Media Journalists (NMJ) has expressed sadness over the death of legendary Nigerian coach and footballer, Paul Hamilton.
The former Nigeria player and tactician passed on in the early hours of Thursday in Lagos.
He was said to have been diagnosed of heart and kidney related health issues some months ago, and had his right leg amputated early this year.
The NMJ says it has been saddened by the loss of the legendary trainer, who they describe as "talented footballer and coach".
"It's with great sadness that we learnt of the tragic passing of the legendary Nigerian coach and footballer Paul Hamilton. The NMJ is immensely hurt by the loss of such a talented footballer and coach who shaped the lives and careers of many Nigerian footballers."
"He was an outstanding coach and player, and will be remembered for his various accomplishments and the contributions he made to the game in Nigeria.
"We wish to extend deepest condolences to the family of Paul Hamilton."
With the defunct ECN, Hamilton who was popularly known Wonder Boy won theChallenge Cup (now Federation Cup) twice in 1965 and 1970.
He was in charge of Nigeria’s U-23 team before he was appointed coach of the Super Eagles. He also led the Super Falcons to their first Women’s FIFA World Cup in China in 1991.
