Nigeria coach Salisu Yusuf admitted his side were not at their best in the 0-0 draw with Mali on Thursday in their 2017 WAFU Cup of Nations, Group A opener.
The local Super Eagles were lucky to have earned a point from the match which was dominated by the Eagles.
Mali created several scoring opportunities especially in the second half, but lacked the cutting edge to turn their possession into goals.
“'We couldn't play up to our standard although the team defended very well,” said Yusuf.
“We will work hard to win our next game because to qualify you need to beat the other teams. That's the mindset - to be able to win our next game and the last game.
Nigeria's next Group A match will be on Saturday, September 16 against Guinea in a must-win encounter to remain in the competition.
