20 clubs to compete in Flavour U-18 football tourney in Enugu


Twenty grassroots clubs have registered to compete for honours at the maiden edition of Flavour U-18 football tournament that will commence in Enugu on Saturday.

The tournament is sponsored by Chinedu Okoli, a musician known as flavour and organised by the Enugu State Football Association (ENSFA). The teams were paired in four groups with five clubs each starting from group A to D.

The first match of the tournament will be between River Lane Football Club of GRA and Black Stars Football Club of New Heaven, Enugu by 10 am.

While the second match of the day on Saturday will be between N D Academy of Ebonyi paint and Young Stars Football Club of Iva Valley.

Speaking during the draw at the ENSFA conference office, Francis Ugwu, the secretary, urged the teams to play according to the rules.

He warned that any team that failed to follow the rules and regulations, to the core, would be penalised.

Ugwu also urged the clubs to be at the venue of their match an hour before their match.

Also speaking, the Secretary of Enugu State Grassroots Managers Association, Henry Akosa, said he was satisfied that the long expected tournament would soon become a reality. ”We have been waiting patiently for this U18 and thank God it will commence on Saturday. ”This is what we have been looking forward to see from well to do citizens of this country and football lovers,” he said.

He said that the U-18 is being sponsored by a musician called flavour and that they are looking forward to getting more sponsorship in other categories. ” Though, the grassroots managers organises football tournament for the U13, 15 and 18 in the state but we will welcome individuals or groups sponsorship. ” I therefore call on other philanthropists in the state and even outside the state to emulate flavour in giving youths the opportunity to showcase their talents,”
