Rescue Sinking Kogi United, cries Group to Governor Wada
A group, Kogi Football Progressive has appealed for the urgent
intervention of the Governor Idris Wada in the rescue from the
administrative illness and fraud besieging the state-owned clubs and
sports activities in the state.
The concerned group expressed dissatisfaction over the mismanagement
of funds approved by the governor for the state-owned clubs,
indicating that catalogue of fraudulent activities have been
perpetrated by the ministry of sports and team managers of the
state-owned clubs, particularly Kogi United.
According to the group, "we are disappointed in the way the
state-owned clubs are been managed, despite the contributions of the
governor from limited resources in state treasury, there is nothing to
show for it as the funds expected to get the clubs smoothly ran are
been diverted for personal use under the pretext of not enough.
"We are aware the governor releases a sum of five hundred thousand
week-in, week-out but surprise the players and coaching crew still
continue to complain and struggle to get results. If the effort of the
government at releasing funds in the first is to move the clubs
forward, why will the club continue to struggle? We have from a strong
Intel that the commissioner unjustifiably make away with around 35% of
the insufficient fund leaving the team to manage it limited
resource-so also will the Kogi United team manager make out his own
cut of at least 30% under claims he settled match officials and other
miscellaneous expenditures.
"You can imagine a club like Kogi United depending on one player to
win matches and are now battling relegation after parading an
ineligible player-the club we also felt should be in a better position
after receiving so much from the government - we suggest total
overhauling of the ministry and club managements as they have
unanimously connived to pull down the club."
"We think its high time the government look into the running of the
club as limited resources released should not be sabotaged. The
commissioner who will consider a sports veteran has since taken over
never shown desired interest to develop the sector and neither is the
hope of having a team in the Nigeria Professional Football League is
nowhere achievable."
The group despite gutted by the perpetual underdevelopment that has
marred football in the state commended the contributions of the
governor on the state-owned clubs, describing the governor recent
contributions to boost the standard of the clubs in the increment of
salaries and donation of 32-seater bus as unprecedented.
They noted that the efforts of the governor Idris Wada which were in
task to fulfil electoral promises and show of his passionate interest
to develop sports in the state has failed to produced good results and
noticeable progress.
They lamented the agenda of the administrators in charge who have
turned the privilege to manage the state darling struggling clubs to
merry making business venture.

speech at the finals of the recently concluded Kogi State 2013
Federation Cup Lokoja, stressing that the running of sports and

to fund.
Mr. Adama insisted that the support from public will go a long way in
consolidating on the present gains and boost grassroots development of
the game and also called on the Captain Idris Wada to assist the duo
of Kogi United and Lokoja FC representing the state at the forthcoming
national Federation Cup competition.
He also stressed the necessity for the Kogi State government to secure
corporate sponsors for the state-owned clubs in Kogi United and
Confluence Queens as that will help in improving the standard and
performance of the teams.

number of talented sports men and women who are making their mark
world over", stressing that "the provision of the standard and
state-of-the-art sports facilities awaits the home return of the
