MEET THE YOUNG ATHLETES IN LAGOS

Hordes of athletic wannabes are working their hearts out in Telsim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.  Esther Egbe met them recently.

Coach AjibadeA.Rasheed started the athlete group for Agbayi Ketu L.G. under Kosofe L.G., Before now, he used to play football with a grassroots football club, but injury brought him to coaching athlete. “I love this job and hope to make our fans and those I represent proud,” he said.




Among his trainees is Kofo Atanda,t
he youngest in the team, a nine-year -old, who said she fell in love with sports as a kid. She watched race and athletes on television, and then made up her mind to go for it. She told her parents  about her new-found love and they supported her, promising her to make them proud with her talent.

Omosaye Racheal



She started running at age fourteen with the Community Junior High School. Her passion is for sprinting because it is what she’s  been longing for right from her primary school.  “I believe I will put more of my strength to run for my Nigeria,” she said.




Okon Mary

Mary, 17,  from the Community Senior High School, joined this team this year because she has been running in primary school before her mum, a sportie, too, asked her to go ahead. The lass admires  Diamond
